I came across the following short video that gives a brief history of cultural Marxism (also known as neo-Marxism). I covered Hegel’s influence in “Uncovering the Wokish Beast,” so I thought this would be a good supplemental post. It’s especially helpful if you want a basic understanding of what’s going on today with all the Critical Theories and other forms of “wokeness.”
It’s also helpful to understand how these Orwellian cultural influencers are master manipulators of the meaning of words and terms, like “anti-racism,” “diversity,” “equity,” “democracy,” and “social justice.” These are euphemisms employed by these radical activists that have very different meanings and are much more sinister in intent than the common understanding of these words.
As CRT is now getting pushback in the mainstream, their proponents deceptively switch to gaslighting their opponents by saying that they aren’t teaching CRT at all, referring instead to their favorite euphemisms (see Joy Reid of MSNBC trying to gaslight Chris Rufo on her show here).
Don’t be fooled by these deceptive tactics.
For Christians who seem to think that Socialism is a good thing, you should know that these founders considered their neo-Marxism ideology to be a replacement “religion” to all other forms of faith. This was their intent from the beginning. The following is from one of neo-Marxism’s founding fathers, Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937):
“Socialism is precisely the religion that must kill Christianity. [It is a] religion in th sense that it too is a faith…[and] becausee it has substituted for the consciousness of the transcendental God of the Catholics, trust in man and his best strengths as the sole spiritual reality.” Antonio Gramsci, “Audacia e Fede”
Frankfurt School leader, Theodor Adorno (1903-1969), saw Christianity as one of the problems with why Western culture must be overthrown and replaced.
The following outline is from his essay, “The Authoritarian Personality“:
According to Adorno, the authoritarian personality is a product of:
- The Patriarchal Family
- Sexual Prepression
Do any of these accusations sound familiar to you in today’s cultural narratives?
According to Dr. J.R. Miller, cultural Marxism is “A twentieth century iteration of Marxist philosophy that views Western Systems & Christian Doctrine as the underlying source of all human oppression.”
So, if you are a follower of Christ, keep mind that this form of Socialism is anti-Christ in nature as it seeks to replace Christianity, and Western culture in general, with its own “woke” religion.
I will talk more about these things in future posts, but for now I encourage you to watch Dr. Miller’s video below. As I said, it was well done and concise.
