Uncovering the Wokish Beast

James Lindsay (New Discourses) calls Wokism a cult religion and contends that its founding apostle is early 19th century German philosopher, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831). It’s Hegel’s utopian idealism that influenced Karl Marx and all of the leftist ideological offshoots since. What we will look at today is how Hegelianism is antichrist in nature, and see a clear trajectory from Hegel to Marx to Wokism. This post is the latest in my occassional forays into the dark labyrinth of radical leftism to expose these cancerous ideologies that ultimately destroy everything they touch.

As Christians, we are called to expose evil ideologies wherever we find them.

11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. (Eph.5:11 NIV)

However, let me be clear. This is NOT directed at the people who may either knowingly or unknowingly embrace these ideologies. I am called to love them. Hopefully, I can do my small part to shine the light of truth on this darkness so they can find true freedom in Christ.

Most who embrace wokism are caring people. It’s just that their sense of morality has been dangerously manipulated.

When we investigate the roots of the current woke movement, we must consider that its apparent progenitor, Hegel, wanted to create a folk religion for the German people that would replace Christianity. Hegel was a dedicated historicist, believing that history was on a pre-determined path toward some perfect utopian world. Hence, his metaphysical philosophy should be considered antichrist, by definition (“anti” can also mean “instead of”). Certainly, we were warned by John that many antichrists would come.

18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.  (1 John 2:18 NIV)

But before we move on, I want to make an interesting observation. Because of the sudden onslaught of the radical left’s woke ideology in the mainstream, we now have interesting alliances forming between atheists (like Lindsay), libertarians, traditional liberals, conservatives, and evangelical Christians, all pushing back against this societal cancer.

For instance, Lindsay has been interviewed a few times on Allie Stuckey’s “Relatable.” Allie is an evangelical Christian. You see one of those interviews here:

I will also add that James Lindsay is a great resource if you want to do a deep dive into understanding the insane ideas of the radical left on his New Discourses website.

According to Lindsay, if we want to understand the “operating system” of the radical left, we must understand Hegel’s Dialectical Method. It’s how we will understand the “faith system” of Marxism, neo-Marxism (cultural Marxism), Postmodernism, Identity Politics, Social Justice Critical theories, Queer theories, and Wokeness. Here’s basically how the Hegelian Dialectic Method works:

Thesis: You have an idea (or current system).
Antithesis: You challenge it and find contradictions (deconstruction).
Synthesis: By contemplating both the thesis and antithesis in the right way, you end up with a broader and greater total.

In theory, this all sounds good, and it is foundational to Western progressivism, but we should also understand that Hegel’s ultimate goal was to create a utopian world without God (the world system itself ultimately becomes a self-actualized god). Ironically, it only shows that when people reject God they will just invent their own.

One of Hegel’s philosophical offsprings, Karl Marx, took took Hegel’s metaphysical dialectical method and turned it into dialectical materialism. Marx used it to deconstruct capitalism and class (see my post, “Deconstructing the Communist Manifesto“). You could say that Hegel was the metaphysical engine and Marx was the activist engine of all leftist ideologies.

After Marx, the cultural Marxists make it about race and gender instead of economics. Postmodernism is about the deconstruction of objective truth and reason (Enlightenment modernity is thesis; deconstruction is antithesis).

These theories are not only critical but pessimistic in nature. While they inherit their methodology from Hegel, the current radical left doesn’t seem to have any interest in the positive synthesis, only the destruction of Western culture.

“Woke” Genesis

Here’s a non-exhaustive “biblical” geneology of the woke religion: Hegel (1770-1831) begot Feuerbach (1804-1872), who begot Marx (1818-1883), who begot Lenin (1870-1924)and later Mao Zedong (1893-1976). Gramsci (1891-1937) departed from economic Marxism and birthed cultural Marxism (neo-Marxism). From Gramsci, the Frankfurt School birthed the Critical Theories with philosophers like Marcuse (1898-1979), Adorno (1903-1969), and Horkheimer (1895-1973), who begot Postmodernism, which include the French deconstructionists like Derrida (1930-2004), Faucoult (1926-1984), and Lyotard (1924-1998). In the 1950-60s, Marcuse begot our modern social justice movement, with Bell (1930-2011), along with Krenshaw, Delgado, DiAngelo, and Kendi (all still living) who are the high priests of woke.

I will look at some of these neo-marxist theories in future posts that I only mentioned in passing here. And some of them are hopelessly convoluted and almost Gnostic in nature. Hopefully, I can unravel it enought to help us understand these insanely hypocritical and intolerant policies of the left that have been forced on us, like Marcuse’s “repressive tolerance” (which we’re experiencing every day from the MSM and Big Tech!)

If you would like to take a deep dive into this Hegelian trajectory, you can watch/listen to this podcast by James Lindsay titled, “Hegel, Wokeness, and the Dialectical Faith of Leftism.” It’s almost four hours long, but fascinating, and it will give you a thorough understanding of the operating system of the radical left.

Wokism is a virtue-signaling religious cult. It’s truly Orwellian. It redefines terms like “social justice” to disguise its vitriolic anti-white bigotry. It’s a religion without atonement, the very opposite of Christianity. For instance, instead of being forgiven for past sins, you’re canceled for any “un-woke” thing you’ve ever done in your past! It’s a cultural bully that foments fear, hatred and division instead of love and unity. It has its own woke scripture and high priests (mentioned above), and its dogma cannot be questioned by its brainwashed sheeple.

Here’s a Timcast video showing a Woke altar call and how they see it as a cult.

This mind-set is part of last days deception. Thanks for an excellent shedding of light on wokism, Mel.

    • Mel Wild says:

Thanks. Yes, when you don’t believe in God anymore you’ll fall for anything.

The good news is, the woke’s biggest enemy is reality. The only reason these crazy theories have lasted this long was because they were below the radar, hidden in darkness on college campuses, until recently. Most of the patriarches on the list above taught their dogma in universities. But now that they’ve gone mainstream these theories will eventually implode. The cultural institutions, like MSM and Big Tech, are artificially propping them up right now, keeping people clueless with their Orwellian narrative. We just have to make sure we bring these dangerous ideologies out in the bright light of day. When any thinking person understands what it is, they will reject it.

  2. Thanks, Mel. That was interesting. I watched the videos, too.

A bit amusing, I hate using terms like “anti christ,” but for goodness sakes when people are preaching against Christ and subscribing to ideology that is the opposite of what Jesus taught, it’s actually deceptive not to just name it for what it is. Sadly (for me anyway in this area) I’m not really arguing with antifa and atheists, but rather with Christians in our churches.

    • Mel Wild says:

Woke is just the latest antichrist ideology, which is why John the apostle said there would be many, including in his day. Hegel clearly was antichrist in the sense that he intentionally tried to replace Christianity with his mad “religion.” That’s antichrist, by definition.

It is most sad that so many Christians are so naive to what is going on. They get their information from Twitter feeds and MSM and what their friends think rather than having a biblical worldview that can discern what’s going on. Some have been indoctrinated from college. They’re like the Manchurian candidate now, sleeper cells activated to support, even become activists for this antichrist cult religion. Hopefully, the Spirit in them will get through and help them realize how they’ve been brainwashed by this dangerous ideology.

Wow. What Tim said in that interview at the end there where he explains the separation of law and government V religious beliefs is so important so they can be tested in the court of law is so insightful. I can be honest that I have never looked at it that way because of my Christian bias and the battle for so many culturally demonic norms being defended by the law. It makes so much sense now why these toxic insane views flooded into the political spectrum so fast because, not many see it as a religion… yet.

I’m glad you’re speaking out against this in such historical depth.

    • Mel Wild says:

Yeah, what Tim said about how New York now defines gender as “self-expression” is total Orwellian doublespeak. To quote from Orwell’s 1984, “It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words.”

This insanity comes from a couple of decades of total detachment from the real world. These people live in an artificial construct, like avatars, totally detaching themselves from biology, science, reason, the real world. It’s total solipsism. That’s why I say that the woke’s biggest enemy is reality. Unfortunately, the pandemic allowed this cancer to matasticize into the mainstream by isolating everyone from each other in the real world. It’s time we took our masks off and woke up from woke!

The best antidote to woke that I can think of is that we reattach ourselves to the real world, making the *actual* world more significant in our lives than the “Matrix” of social media. In fact, get off social media for awhile and get together with actual friends and enjoy actual life! Be in real physical, face-to-face relationships. Breath the fresh air, laugh together, experience beauty, art, music, love, freedom, and be grateful for what we have. Woke cannot survive in this type of environment. 🙂

  4. Salvageable says:

I’ve known that Hegel is at the root of a lot of evil, but I never made the connection between Hegel and wokism. In fact, the woke seem determined not to create a synthesis, but rather to make their antithesis of Christianity and western civilization the final answer. So long as we cling to Christ, our answer to all the worldly philosophies will surely prevail. J.

    • Mel Wild says:

It is true that the latest crop of the radical left has no interest in synthesis. They only want desconstruction…or total destruction of our culture. That makes their movement regressive, not progressive. And you can see the regressive nature of their ideology when we’re witnessing the return of hard-core racism and bigotry (except now it’s anti-white), segregation, and just pure revenge. It’s a religion without forgiveness or grace.

These people are so ignorant of history (or they’ve rejected it), expecially, the overwhelming evidence of the utter failure of Marxist ideology. They’ve rejected biology, science, and reason, or anything outside of their own solipsism, which makes them very dangerous. It’s like letting a hysterical version of cult leader, Jim Jones, take over every institution in our society!

The frightening thing is, no nation can survive when it views math as racist, when it removes the rule of law, when it cancels all dissenting voices, and when it departs from reason. You cannot have a society for long in this condition. This is why we must push back against it and not be cow-towed by this beast. Freedom requires courage in the face of tyranny.

The good news, as I said before, is that woke’s kryponite is reality. So, yes, we cling to Christ who is the truth, and it’s the truth that truly makes all people free!

      • Salvageable says:

I guess the woke people think that all history written before 2010 is white male history and all science practiced before 2010 is white male science, and therefore they can write their own history and science and theology and throw the old stuff out the window. As you say, reality–and especially Christ who is the Truth–remains our strongest ally and protection in these difficult times. J.

        • Mel Wild says:

The woke faithful believe that all of history is just one long trail of white supremists and oppressive patriarchy. Western civilization is a systemically racist system that needs to be destroyed. They are anti-science (science and math are racist tools to stay in power). They don’t believe in truth, only power, which makes it hard to talk to the true believers. Fortunately, most aren’t true believers, only indoctrinated followers. Truth will win in the end. 🙂
