Abiding in Love (activation)

As we saw last time, learning how to remain in God’s love is the same thing as training our soul to live from heaven to earth. His perfecting love casts out all fear, makes us fruitful, and undefeatable!  We also asked ourselves, if these things are true (and they are!), then why don’t we avail ourselves to this glorious adventure in God? I will look at this question and offer a practical activation.

Do you believe?

The first thing we need to honestly deal with is, do we believe what God is offering us here? Because if we don’t, we won’t do it. We will continue on the religious hamster wheel trying to attain what we’ve already been freely given in Christ.

Do I really believe what Jesus Himself is saying here?

But if you live in life-union with me and if my words live powerfully within you—then you can ask whatever you desire and it will be done.

11 My purpose for telling you these things is so that the joy that I experience will fill your hearts with overflowing gladness! (John 15:7, 11 TPT*)

We first must deal with our unbelief and take God at His word by believing it’s worth it to make this a priority.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Heb.11:6 NKJV*)

The second thing to consider is what I mentioned last time. These are relational truths. You can’t take a class, go to a conference, or “faith” yourself into it. No one can lay hands on you and give it to you, nor can they seek the Lord for you. It can only be experienced firsthand.

But the good news is, you’re already there—in heaven with Christ! (Eph.2:6; Phil.3:20; Heb.12:22). All you have to do is learn how to receive it as a free gift that keeps on giving.

And being that this is relational truth, we’re not focusing on our faith, answers to prayer, or anything God can give us; our focus is on the Lord Himself.

8I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (Psalm 16:8 NASB*)

When we diligently seek Him, (rather than His gifts, miracles, answers to prayer), we’re rewarded with a heaven-filled, supernaturally fruitful, undefeatable life in Him!

Are You Disqualifying Yourself?

The third thing we need to deal with is how we see ourselves. Many Christians disqualify themselves by saying they’re not spiritually inclined, or gifted, or they dismiss this as something for more mystical people. Maybe they don’t think they hear His voice. But these thoughts are all LIES that keep us from the knowledge of God! We must take these kinds of thoughts captive in obedience to what God says about it (see 2 Cor.10:3-5). It doesn’t take a gift to “set Him continually before you.” All you need is a mind and a willing heart.

Our default mindset should be that He qualifies us. It’s not because of anything we’ve done, but what He did with us!

11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience;  joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. (Col.1:11 NASB*)

It was God’s decision to put us in heaven with Christ because of His great love for us. Remaining in His love does require our repentance: in other words, we must leave our futile efforts to try to get to God and let Him re-frame our earthbound thinking by receiving everything thankfully as a free gift. This relationship is based on His performance, not ours.

We become fruitful because He empowers and provides for everything He calls us to do.

Beloved, this is your glorious inheritance! Don’t be like the elder brother and never avail yourself to what’s freely given to you (see Luke 15:28-32).

A Simple Activation

Here’s an activation you can use anywhere and anytime. I’ve provided a Google document (see link below) that you can download and use. I’ve been doing this simple exercise based in John 15 for 12 years now. I guarantee it will help you develop a new lifestyle habit of remaining in Christ’s love and being aware His presence in you throughout your day.

This is only one of many ways to “continually set the Lord” before you. If you do this on a consistent basis, He will begin to change you, even change your DNA! You’ll start to see things through His eyes, from heaven, instead of according to your earthly circumstances.

This activation is best done in a quiet spot, at least while you’re first learning a new habit, but it can be done anywhere because it only takes a minute or two. All you have to do is simply pause throughout the day and bring yourself back into this place again, thanking Him and bringing your soul into rest in His love.

As you practice, you will go from being consciously-incompetent to unconsciously-competent. It will be your “new normal!” What you will learn is how to go through your regular day, working on completing your normal tasks, focusing on what’s in front of you on the earth while staying in the awareness of the presence. And you’ll learn to move from that place towards being fully aware of heaven and earth at the same time.

Remember, you are qualified! Enjoy your journey with God, being empowered and equipped, while overflowing with His love and joy!
