The Night Before Christmas
By Maureen Wild
Twas the night before Christmas
And all around the earth
The people were suffering, not knowing their worth.
There were some lived in fear of strange gods unknown
While Israel wanted a king on a throne.
But God, in His goodness, had His own special plan,
Heaven’s beloved Jesus would come as a man.
And man, in his suffering, astray in his sin
Was blind to the wonder so soon to begin ——
When out of the heavens an angel did speak
Encouraging shepherds watching over their sheep.
Away to Bethlehem the shepherds soon sped
Where a virgin and baby were making their bed.
A great star in heaven, lit clearly the way
To the sweet, precious baby asleep on the hay.
And what to Mary’s wondering eyes should appear
But some wise men with gifts she would always hold dear.
When all bowed in worship and knelt on the floor,
It was clear that they all knew that this was the Lord.
The welfare of mankind was the reason He came
And mountains would move at the sound of His name.
Now, Satan, take note that God’s precious Son
Would restore His beloved when this fight was won.
To remove what was dross, to replace it with gold,
To dash away all of the lies they’ve been told.
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky
So up on the cross will Jesus be nailed
But soon you will see that, Satan, you’ve failed!
Because in a twinkling the old becomes new,
With our sins washed away and our old nature, too!
As He’s drawn from the cross and placed in a grave,
Down to hell He would go to free the enslaved.
Now He’s clothed all in white with a crown on His head,
And we are all in Him, just as He said.
And the sins that He flung so far to the east,
Will never be looked at again in the least.
His eyes filled with love! His heart fully for us!
His plan from the beginning, to completely restore us!
His only desire, to have us as sons,
And make it quite clear we’re His favorite ones!
The power of God is the strength that’s behind us,
And even the demons are required to mind us.
We have a good Dad, who is kind and forgiving,
That wants us to know that new life is worth living.
He is faithful and true – the most perfect of friends,
And He walks always with us, any way the road bends.
A wink of His eye and a nod of His head,
Soon gives us the truth, we have nothing to dread.
And so, with the Word, we will walk in the Light,
And while we are here we will fight the good fight.
And when the day comes when Jesus returns,
We will live in that kingdom for which our heart yearns.
Yet, for now, we celebrate the Child in the stable,
Who accomplishes all things, no other is able.
They heard angels exclaim, on that night way back when,
“God’s peace on the earth, His goodwill to all men!”
May you and yours have a very blessed Christmas. You are So loved!
