Getting there

UndoingI shared last time about letting go and laying hold of the “that for which” God has laid hold of us (Phil.3:12). I think that Steffany Gretzinger’s song, Getting There, will encourage us in this regard.

One of my favorite verses in the Message Bible is 2 Cor.6:12. I believe this paraphrase expresses what keeps us from fully experiencing the life that God has intended for us (bold-type added).

“Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much
I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life.
We didn’t fence you in.
The smallness you feel comes from within you.
Your lives aren’t small,
but you’re living them in a small way.
I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives.
Live openly and expansively!” (2 Cor.6:12 MSG)

First, notice where the limitation comes from. It’s not on God’s end. Paul is saying that the smallness we feel is between our ears. We usually hold back and don’t follow through on what’s in our heart because of fear. Of course, use wisdom but fear no more, for His love transforms our heart and truly makes us brave!

The second admonition is to live openly and expansively. This is that living space I was talking about last time, where we have been placed inside the Father’s love for Jesus (John 15:9). It’s here where we find the courage and strength to be who we were created to be. It’s this place where we learn to live in His rest.

So let’s be those who are determined to let go of this smallness and enter into the wide-open spaces of God waiting for us, this journey of discovery of all that He has for us.

We’re getting there
We’re determined to discover
All that you have hidden for us
Along the way
We’re getting there
And Your presence is the promise
There is nothing that can stop us
We’re on our way

For we have learned to live in our heavenly Father’s embrace, and He makes us radiant with joy which strikes fear in the very heart of hell itself.

So rise and shine, beloved one! For His glory has risen upon you–your time has come to mount up on eagle’s wings and boldly go where one Man has gone before…

Knowing You have gone before us
We press on
Knowing You believe in us
With confidence we run

I pray the song will bless you and motivate you to press on in the “that for which” God has laid hold of you. You are SO loved!

Getting There
By Amanda Cook, Maggie Ritchie, Steffany Gretzinger

Further seems forever
Until you’ve seen, until you get there
Until you feel a promise land beneath your feet

But there’s a reason for the journey
There is a purpose in the learning
That not everything in life comes naturally
No, not everything in life comes easily

We’re getting there
We’re determined to discover
All that you have hidden for us
Along the way
We’re getting there
And Your presence is the promise
There is nothing that can stop us
We’re on our way

We’ve tasted of your goodness
We know that you are for us
We can hear the sound of heaven cheer us on

Every day begins with mercy
Every moment filled with beauty
Knowing You have gone before us
We press on
Knowing You believe in us
With confidence we run

We will see You in the land of the living
We will find you in the mystery
Your presence is the joy set before us
For now and all eternity

We won’t stop running, running
We won’t stop coming after You
