I live in an area that is absolutely beautiful in the autumn. Besides our many rivers, hills, and majestic soaring bald eagles, the leaves turn brilliant colors of red, orange, and yellow. The photos here are ones I took with my phone on a recent walk through our town, but you can see more professional photos of what I mean here.
What was pointed out to me is that these beautiful colors are actually the leaves true colors. In other words, green is not their true color. Doing a little research, I found this to be true. Here’s an excerpt from an article that I found here.
“As the days get shorter, the tree does not have enough sunlight to make food for itself. Rather than struggle to make food through the winter, it shuts down. It stops producing chlorophyll and allows its fall leaves to die. When the tree stops producing chlorophyll, the green color leaves the foliage and you are left with the “true color” of the leaves.
Leaves are naturally orange and yellow. The green just normally covers this up.”
What’s interesting to me about this is that what is hidden is revealed in full maturity.
And this made me think of the film, Sons of God, that I talked about in my last post, and how Paul tells us that all of creation is waiting for the sons of God to be revealed. Let’s look at this verse (bold-type added).
“For the earnest expectation
of the creation eagerly waits
for the revealing of the sons of God.“ (Rom.8:19 NKJV)
There are two words here we should consider more closely.
Revealing – ἀποκάλυψις (apokalypsis) – besides meaning appearance, can also mean a disclosure, revelation, spiritual enlightenment.
Sons – υἱός (hyios) – means “a son as implying connection in respect of membership, service, resemblance, manifestation, destiny.
Could it be that this “revealing” has to do with spiritual enlightenment, disclosure and revelation about connection, resemblance and destiny?
And if this is true, to whom is this being revealed?
Could it be to you and me?
I like how the Message paraphrase Bible renders John 1:12 (Bold-type added).
“But whoever did want him,
who believed he was who he claimed
and would do what he said,
He made to be their true selves,
their child-of-God selves.
These are the God-begotten,
not blood-begotten, not flesh-begotten,
not sex-begotten.“ (John 1:12 MSG)
In the more traditional rendering of John 1:12 there are key words to also consider that I think bear this out.
Received – λαμβάνω (lambanō) – to accept, to put on, seize, take up
Right – ἐξουσία (exousia) – power, authority, ability
Become – γίνομαι (ginomai) – to come into existence; to be created, exist by creation, to arise, come on, occur, as the phenomena of nature, etc.
This means that sons of God immediately “come into existence” when they accept what God says about them, arising by seizing and “putting on” this new identity by faith, walking in the authority and power of their Father in heaven as a new race of beings (Gr. kainos – of a unique order, unprecedented – 2 Cor.5:17), of which Christ is the firstborn (Rom.8:29; Col.1:18).
Putting these two statements of Scripture together, what all of creation is waiting for is for the sons of God to finally get it— to see their true colors, their child-of-God selves. To know that we’re no longer orphans, we’re beloved sons of the Most High God!
Here’s the thing. Even though we already are fully-authorized sons of God, we may not know it. An orphan may be biologically born of a king yet live like a homeless beggar under a bridge. Then after many years, the king’s messenger may search him out and when he finally finds him, he reveals his true identity to him.
This is what this revealing means. I believe we’re waking up from centuries of homeless beggar religion that we’ve called the Christian life, to the glory and power of His royal life, because the King’s messenger–His Spirit–has sought us out in order to bring out our true colors.
To finally actually see, believe and walk out the reality that, “as He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17)
Beloved, is all of creation waiting for you and me to see our true colors? To come into maturity, finally seeing our inseparable connection and resemblance to our heavenly Father?
I do believe we are living in a day where we’re finally leaving this darkened mindset of orphan-hearted religion that separates us from God. We’re finally learning how to live the exchanged life in our heavenly Father’s embrace–to where we love like Him, talk like Him, see like Him, bringing His splendor, His magnificence and His glory everywhere we walk on this earth.
“Arise, shine; for your light has come,
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
“For behold, darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you
And His glory will appear upon you.
“Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.” (Isa.60:1-3 NASB)
This is truly an exciting time to be alive if you will just open the eyes of your heart to it. All of creation is yearning for us to get this. Please get this!
Jesus is the Light and Desire of the Nations, and He lives in you and is your life. And this reality is absolutely beautiful to behold!
