Just stay a little longer…

StayThis post is a companion to my last post and the one before. It’s also a great excuse to play another song from the You Make Me Brave CD. 🙂 This one is written by Jenn Johnson and has been a favorite of mine for years.

What I love about this song is that it’s like one of the Psalms. It starts out with our anxious entry, followed by God’s response, then finally our wondrous surrender.

We often come to the Lover Of Our Soul with so many divergent thoughts swirling around in our grateful but disquieted Martha-mind, armed with all our best intentions to go over the top for God. I will do anything for you, Lord. I will serve you, go all out for you, jump through hoops for You…Please, tell me what You want me to do for You…See me here waiting, tell me, would ya just tell me…. Indeed, we would do anything to get His attention, His affection, His affirmation….

At about the time we usually pick up and head out into our busy world something inside of us tells us to stay just a little longer…

We begin to hear a sound resonating in our Mary-heart. At first it seems distant. We can’t quite make it out…but as we quiet ourselves we realize it’s Him! And He’s singing over us. What a sweet, sweet sound! What a healing sound!

Now we can hear His gentle voice clearly…

“You don’t have to do a thing
Just simply be with Me
And let those things go
‘Cause they can wait another minute
Wait this moment is too sweet
Please stay here with Me
And love on Me a little longer”

Suddenly, everything changes.

All the traffic and noise comes crashing down and all we can do is worship at His feet. We lay silent, lifeless, helpless, yet fully aware. Every cell within us seems to be vibrating and reverberating to His beautiful voice! We feel our spirit rising within us. Our heart is now pounding. We feel like we’re coming alive, maybe for the very first time.

We now realize that everything we’ve ever really wanted in the longing of our deepest heart of hearts converges here in this place.

Now we don’t want to leave because we’ve finally found Home. We’ve finally found rest for our anxious and harried soul in His embrace. The haunting, debilitating angst is gone! Our heart now burns clear with a seemingly inexhaustible and fiery passion that we now know cannot be satisfied in any other place but here.

And we instinctively know that when we finally leave this place, we will leave renewed, full of hope, full of HIS joy, fully at peace in HIS rest. We are resolved, we are empowered, we are free!

We will now walk with the steadfast confidence that finds its strength from knowing we are loved, that He is always with us and fully for us–indeed, in the knowing that we never really leave this place at all.

Truly, He makes us brave.

So I will end this week where I started. With a song for our weary souls. Come away and find rest, beloved of God. And stay just a little longer.

Who knows what may be in store for you. 🙂

What can I do for You
What can I give to You
What kind of song would You like me to sing
I’ll dance a dance for You
I’ll pour out my love to You
What can I give to You beautiful King

‘Cause I can’t thank You enough
I can’t thank You enough

Cos Your wonderful
And You’re good to me, yeah
You’re wonderful
You are good, You are faithful, yeah
Never changing in all Your ways, Lord

Then I hear You sing to me
You don’t have to do a thing
Just simply be with Me
And let those things go
‘Cause they can wait another minute
Wait this moment is too sweet
Please stay here with Me
And love on Me a little longer
‘Cause I’m in love with you

My heart is burns for You
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Jesus, my heart it burns for You

So I’ll wait here at Your feet
It’s where I want to be
Your voice I’ll follow
Jesus, You are everything to me
And I’ll pour out my life
Worship at Your feet
And love on You a little longer
I’m in love with You
